Elinor’s on her deathbed with Merida holding her hand and stroking her hair by her side.

Merida’s turned out into quite the wise woman and ruler, just like her own mother. They owe a lot to to each other, but Merida feels she owes Elinor a whole lot more. 

She knows it’s impossible, but tearfully begs her mother to stay with her a while more.

To which Elinor weakly puts her hand over Merida’s heart and responds

“My brave wee lassie, I’m here… I’ll always be right here.”
